A number of defense topics discussed at today’s meeting of the North Atlantic Council of NATO, Misajlovski confirmed the Macedonian position on investing in defense

Today (13 February), Defense Minister Vlado Misajlovski attended and talked at the meeting of the North Atlantic Council of the Alliance, at NATO headquarters in Brussels, which was attended by the Defense Ministers of all 32 allies.

 

At the meeting, the Defense Minister addressed several topics, confirming our country’s intention to continuously invest 2 percent of its gross domestic product in defense, which positioned our country among two-thirds of allied countries that have fulfilled this jointly adopted decision in NATO.

 

The Minister also gave full support to strengthening NATO’s defense and deterrence concept through the fulfillment of the defined capability targets and continuous investment in modernization and equipment. He noted that over 32 percent of the Macedonian defense budget for 2025, or over 106 million euros, has been allocated for this purpose. He added that NATO should continue to work together with the European Union on the development of defense capacities and also referred to the Macedonian contribution to NATO’s collective defense.

 

The Minister congratulated Pete Hegseth on taking over the position of US Secretary of Defense.

 

In the afternoon, Minister Misajlovski will also participate in the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council.
