Below you can find information about the procedure and process for voluntary military service in the Army.
According to Article 62 of the Defense Law ("Official Gazette of the RM" No. 185 dated 30.12.2011), all citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia who meet the conditions for military service may voluntarily enter military service after turning 18, but no later than the age of 26.
To voluntarily serve military service in the Army, an application must be submitted. This right is available to every male and female citizen of the Republic of North Macedonia, and there is no set deadline for submitting the application.
HOW TO APPLY AND PROCEDURE
The application for voluntary military service in the Army is submitted personally by the citizen to the Ministry of Defense – Defense Department in their place of residence or stay, i.e., where they are registered in the military records. (Defense Departments for regions – cities and municipalities in the Republic of North Macedonia).

After receiving the applications for voluntary military service, the Defense Departments in the Republic of North Macedonia compile a register and organize medical examinations and psychological tests.
The Defense Departments notify or summon the citizens who have already submitted applications about the dates for medical examinations and psychological tests according to the plan and lists they receive.
Medical examinations and psychological tests are conducted at the Military Medical Center in Skopje and typically last up to 2 days.
Upon completion of the medical and psychological evaluations, citizens who are assessed by the Military Medical Commission of the Ministry of Defense as “meeting the criteria for military service” become candidates for voluntary military service and are planned to be sent for voluntary military service in the Army.
Voluntary military service in the Army is assigned based on the Army’s needs. If the number of applicants exceeds the required number for a given intake period, the order of application is applied, and the remaining citizens will be scheduled for the next intake period.
Voluntary military service in the Army is conducted in three intake periods: February, June, and October of each calendar year. The duration of service is 3 months, and it is performed at the “Aleksо Demnievski-Bauman” barracks in Veles.
According to Article 7 of the Regulation on the time and manner of directing citizens to military service and the procedure for terminating military service and dismissing soldiers from the Army ("Official Gazette of RM" No. 44/2007), the candidate may withdraw from military service from the day of submitting the withdrawal request until the day of receiving the call for military service.
A candidate who has received a call for military service may withdraw no later than 10 days from the date of receiving the call.
Withdrawal from military service must be made by submitting a personal statement of withdrawal.
