The modernization of the Army continues with new and sophisticated equipment, a message from Minister Misajlovski on the occasion of the celebration of 17 October, the day of the Operations Command

Today (17 October) at the Kumanovo barracks “Boro Menkov”, Minister of Defence Vlado Misajlovski attended the celebration of the day of the Operations Command, the largest command within the Macedonian Army. The Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, was also present at the military ceremony.

In his address, Minister Misajlovski said that “members of the Command demonstrate professionalism, motivation and dedication on a daily basis”, adding that most of them are strengthening the eastern flank of the Alliance in the multinational forces in Romania, Bulgaria and Latvia and are involved in dealing with the consequences of natural disasters in the country.

“You fulfil this responsibility in full, justifying our complete trust…and we exist to provide you with the best conditions and the most modern equipment”, said the Minister. He informed that the defence budget will continue to grow, and a significant part of these funds is intended for modernization and equipment. “You deserve it!”, the Minister told the members of the Command.

“We will continue next year and in the years to come at an even faster pace to provide more funds and to provide many modernization projects for all of you”, concluded the minister.

General Lafchiski, in turn, stressed that the Operations Command is a pillar of the Army, emphasizing its primary mission, to continuously prepare conventional land and air forces for the defence and protection of the territorial integrity and independence of the homeland.

Brigadier General Mirche Gjorgoski, Commander of the Operations Command, emphasized that in the year we are celebrating five years of full-fledged membership in NATO, we are witnessing an accelerated modernization of the Army, thus making an appropriate contribution to the Alliance’s efforts to create capacities in order to deter potential threats to the sovereignty and security not only of our country, but also of any NATO member.

During the ceremony, the Reconnaissance Battalion was declared the best unit.
