Minister of Defence Vlado Misajlovski visited members of the Macedonian contingent in the European Union operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, EUFOR Althea, in Sarajevo today (27 November 2025), where he was informed about their engagement and contribution to the security and stability of the country.
At the meeting with the EUFOR Commander, Major General Florin-Marian Barbu, the Minister emphasized the significance of this operation for the security of the region, underlining that our country has been continuously contributing to the European Union’s efforts to maintain a safe and stable Bosnia and Herzegovina for almost two decades.
In Sarajevo, the minister also met with members of the Macedonian contingent integrated within the unit from Turkey, as well as with the Macedonian representative in the EUFOR command. At the meeting, Misajlovski congratulated them on their “high level of professionalism, engagement and readiness”, noting that their work is the best example of partnership and trust between the countries contributing to this operation.
“I am proud of each and every one of our members who participates in Operation Althea. Your contribution is not only in the service of peace and stability in BiH – it is a strong message about our commitment as a state, about our dedication to European security policies and about our role as a credible partner in international missions”, said Misajlovski.
Our country will continue to actively contribute to strengthening the security of the region – through participation in the EU operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and NATO’s mission in Kosovo, concluded the minister, adding that in this way we maintain long-term stability in the region and the security of all our citizens.
Members of the Macedonian Army have been participating in the EUFOR – Althea operation since 2006. Currently, 33 army members are participating in the operation. At the “Butmir” base in Sarajevo, Misajlovski laid fresh flowers at the memorial to the members of the Macedonian Army who died in the helicopter crash near Blace, Katlanovo, who were part of this mission.
