Macedonian-Norwegian defence cooperation developing at an accelerated pace, meeting Misajlovski – Melsom

Minister of Defense Vlado Misajlovski, today (4 February), received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway accredited to our country, Kristin Melsom, with whom he discussed the intensification of the defence cooperation between the two allied countries. The Minister gave his full support for the implementation of the initiated projects and stressed that the Macedonian Defence and Army are fully committed to the implementation of all activities that strengthen our national and collective security in the Alliance.

“Thank you for your continued long-term support. We have jointly implemented many projects, but we do not stop here – we remain committed to the development of new projects including the project for the advancement of the civilian personnel which will start in April this year”, said the Minister at the meeting.

The two countries also cooperate in the framework of the Balkan Medical Task Force where Norway is a partner country and supports the development of the medical force. In this context, Minister Misajlovski expressed the readiness of our country to host the Committee of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services in NATO (COMEDS) in 2026. The cooperation in other areas, such as joint participation in exercises, cooperation in the field of public relations, support of the PARC and TA Krivolak, as well as the cooperation between military academies, etc. was also confirmed.

Macedonian-Norwegian cooperation in the defence dates back to 2008 with the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation. Currently, the two countries are working to coordinate the 2025 Bilateral Defence Cooperation Plan.
