Meeting of Minister Misajlovski with the KFOR Commander, Major General Barduani: We continue with the contribution to KFOR, which strengthens regional security

“The Macedonian Army will continue its contribution to the NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, because in this way we contribute to the strengthening of security and stability in the region. This is extremely important in this period of instability and disrupted global security”, said Defence Minister Vlado Misajlovski at a meeting with the KFOR Commander, Major General Enrico Barduani, held today, 20 December, at the Ministry.

Misajlovski expressed satisfaction that all Macedonian contingents that were part of KFOR have had an excellent cooperation with the command, as well as with members of other countries whose members are contributing to this mission. “Together we contribute to maintaining security in Kosovo, but we also learn about each other every day, we develop our interoperability and show that the allies want the Balkans to remain peaceful, stable and secure”, added the minister.

Misajlovski also referred to Macedonia’s contribution to NATO’s collective defence – our contribution in the Alliance’s multinational forces in Romania, Bulgaria and Latvia, as well as its contribution to the EU-led operation ALTHEA in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the UN-led mission in Lebanon, UNIFIL.

At the meeting, General Barduani expressed gratitude for the contribution of our country to the KFOR mission, which, he said, was in the service of peace and stability in the region.

The NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, dates back to 1999 in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 1244. Currently, this mission, which involves 29 nations, also includes 70 members of the Macedonian Army. Additionally, with the opening of the Host Nation Support Coordination Center (HNS-CC) in 2005, our country also provides continuous logistical support to this NATO mission.
