Today, 13 Jul, the Minister of Defence, Vlado Misajlovski, visited the army barracks in Kjojlija to inspect ongoing construction activities at a facility within the complex. The project is valued at 10.7 million denars provided from the defence budget. This facility received a completely new roof structure last year.
During the inspection, Misajlovski stated that the practice of non-investing in the army infrastructure is coming to an end. He emphasized that the commitment to changing these conditions is clearly demonstrated through the project at the Kjojlija barracks, where a complete interior renovation is underway—including windows, doors, flooring, and the total reconstruction of all sanitary nodes facilities in the building.
"We are currently active across all barracks... Work is also being done in Veles, where roofs are being replaced throughout the everywhere in the barracks. In line with our modernization plans, we are creating new capacities in Prilep, including specialized facilities for those vehicles, as well as for the artillery, and so on. I hope that soon you will visit Shtip to see that we have built completely new facilities there, but we are also moving forward with new technical documentation for next year," said the Minister. He added that priorities are set by the Army itself and that investments will be made in accordance with the defence budget, which will continue to grow.
The Minister noted that while work is actively progressing, activities will also begin on additional major infrastructure projects across all army barracks, as well as at the Military Stadium, the Military Medical Center, the Army House, and the Military Academy.
In the past period, approximately twenty infrastructure projects valued at over 3.1 million euros were completed, while five projects worth more than 850,000 euros are currently being implemented across several barracks. At this moment, a project identical to the one at the Kjojlija barracks is also being executed at the barracks in Veles.
While in Kjojlija, the Minister also visited members of the Engineer Battalion stationed at these barracks. The army engineers recently received new engineering mechanization delivered as part of the first support package through the European Peace Facility.
