The Ministry of Defense strongly condemns the unfortunate event of damaging the memorial plaque of the fallen defenders near the village of Karpalak. The event was registered by the competent services of the Ministry in the early morning hours.
The event was immediately reported to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, so that appropriate measures are taken to identify the perpetrators of this unfortunate act. Following the appropriate diplomatic lines, the case has also been reported to the international community.
The Ministry of Defense is immediately undertaking activities to set up a new memorial plaque and it will be set up as soon as possible.
Regarding the installation of a memorial in the Karpalak area, we inform you that in the past 7 years, initiatives have been taken to install a memorial that are not in accordance with the legal regulations in this area.
Namely, it has not been taken into account that the place where the monument is planned to be placed is a protected belt where facilities can be built in the function of the highway, and negative responses are constantly received from the competent institutions.
That is, actions have been taken to do absolutely nothing.
The Ministry of Defense, in coordination with the competent institutions, is considering all legal possibilities for setting up a worthy memorial.
