Minister of Defense Vlado Misajlovski met today (30 June) at the Ministry with the Commander of NATO Allied Forces Europe, General Alexus Grynkewich, who is on a several-day visit to the country.
At the meeting, Minister Misajlovski expressed his satisfaction with the excellent cooperation with the Allied Command Operations, pointing out that the members of the Macedonian Army will continue to make a personal contribution to the security of the eastern flank of the Alliance as part of the NATO multinational forces in Latvia, Bulgaria and Romania. At the meeting, the Minister also addressed investments in defense, as well as the development of the Army.
"We are strengthening the capacities of the Army, and thus the collective security of the Alliance. We are investing in the modernization and equipment process, which, in parallel with our investment in the development of the members of the Army, has enabled the Light Infantry Battalion Group to recently receive the evaluation “mission ready” in accordance with the highest NATO standards”, the Minister said at the meeting adding that the country remains a credible and reliable ally in the Alliance.
At the meeting with General Lafchiski, the generals discussed the current security situation in the Alliance's area of operations, the process of equipping and modernizing the Army, as well as the current contribution of forces and assets within the framework of supporting the Alliance Regional Defense Plans, of which our country is an important part.
As part of the visit, General Grynkewich also met with the Prime Minister, Hristijan Mickoski, and will also meet with the President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova.
The Supreme Allied Commander Europe has overall command of all NATO operations at the strategic level. General Grynkewich performs his duties from the headquarters of Supreme Allied Command Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, Kingdom of Belgium. General Grynkewich also serves as Commander of the United States European Command, headquartered in Stuttgart, Federal Republic of Germany.
